Welcome to another edition of our Weekly Rewind – where we summarize all our posts from the last week. The top stories this week were 3) “Measuring Security Effectiveness”, 2) “ShmooCon FireTalks”, and 1) “ShmooCon FireTalks 2015 Speakers & Schedule”. If you missed anything or happened to be offline, we hope you find this summary post useful as a quick reference. A la Schneier … you can also use this rewind post to talk about the security stories in the news that we haven’t covered remote-access.
ShmooCon FireTalks 2015 Speakers & Schedule: Just a short post to announce the speakers for this year’s ShmooCon Firetalks… With several more submissions at the last-minute, the selection committee has continued to pull together a diverse program with the most interesting talks combined with a good mix of established and new speakers. Measuring Security Effectiveness: Last week my compliance vs. security Venn diagram caught a lot of traction on Twitter with a mention by @stevewerby. Nice to get this kind of attention however the best part was @taosecurity chiming in with a related diagram covering a Security Effectiveness Model he posted around the same time. It essentially depicts the overlap between what is defended versus what is attacked as explained in the third paragraph below. ShmooCon FireTalks 2015 Update: Great news … ShmooCon Firetalks is all full up with sponsors thanks to Tikras taking up both the Gold and Bronze levels! Now that everything is in place I just wanted to put out a big final thank you to all of them for supporting awards for the best speakers. But before that a thank you to @TessSchrodinger, @MrUsernamington, @irongeek_adc, and @ideasnunow for volunteering to help run things Saturday night. Without their support Firetalks would be a much more complex endeavor to coordinate. And also just in case you missed it, we posted the Firetalks schedule last week. (continued here)
Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Have a great weekend!
