Welcome to another edition of our Weekly Rewind – where we summarize all our posts from the last week. The top stories this week were 3) “PCI DSS for Engineers Webinar”, 2) “Honeypotting for Dummies with MHN”, and 1) “Video of the Day – The Infamous “TracerT” Tool. If you missed anything or happened to be offline, we hope you find this summary post useful as a quick reference.
A la Schneier … you can also use this rewind post to talk about the security stories in the news that we haven’t covered remote-access.
PCI DSS for Engineers Webinar: One of our regular contributors, Michele Chubirka (a.k.a., @MrsYisWhy), will be presenting a webinar covering PCI on Wednesday, July 2nd. If you see PCI being one of the things you’ll be focusing on in the near future, please be sure to checkout this session! (continued here)
Video of the Day – The Infamous “TracerT” Tool: It’s been awhile since our last “Video of the Day” post but after a reminder of this goodie on the NoVA Hackers list last week we continue on with the infamous “TracerT” hacking tool by none other than NextGenHacker101. The video, which demonstrates how to view other computer IP addresses visiting a website along with their connection speed at that “exact moment”, is almost six years old but we just wanted to record it here for posterity. Know of any other infosec videos we should post? Let us know through our contact page. (continued here)
Honeypotting for Dummies with MHN: Just posting this new honeypotting project, called Modern Honey Network (MHN), here as a reference… It is great to see open efforts like this project that make it easier for organizations to learn more about their adversaries. Most groups do not take advantage of such opportunities and hopefully this project will lower the barrier to entry and make us better defenders as an industry. Of course there are always the legal consequences to consider so as always be careful with your deployments. For more information on these and other honeypots, see our previous Honeypots 101 post. Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Have a great weekend!
