FireTalks LogoAlthough many of the details are still being worked out we wanted to put out a quick post to announce the ShmooCon 2014 FireTalks call for papers, sponsors and volunteers. This year we are planning on having between five and eight 15-minute speaking slots each night depending on the final discussions the ShmooCon team. And as always you MUST have a ShmooCon barcode to submit, volunteer, or attend FireTalks.

CFP

We are hoping to accommodate many of the awesome submissions that ShmooCon was not able to accept due to the finite number of speaking slots. If you are already speaking at ShmooCon, please be considerate and leave submissions open to others. Other than that … the only thing we are looking for is a nice mix of established and new speakers.

To ease our submission load, we will be using the free EasyChair Conferencing System. It just requires that you create an account, login, and select “New Submissions” from the top menu. From there just fill out as much information as you can and hit the submission button. Beyond the required author and title fields, please include your abstract, bio, and an outline or additional information about your submission in the Abstract text area. The form also requires at least three keywords. Do not try to upload a paper but instead just select the “Abstract Only” checkbox.

For those of you that are date driven, here is our planned schedule for the CFP and speaker selection process.

  • Submission Opens: December 3, 2013
  • CFP Deadline: December 15, 2013
  • Author Notification: January 1, 2014
  • Schedule Announced: January 5, 2014

To get started head on over to the EasyChair SC2014FT portal.

Sponsors

Next up is our continued effort to raise the bar on great prizes. In order to support this we have come up with the following sponsorship levels.

  • Platinum: $500 (prize for 1st place)
  • Gold: $250 (prize for 2nd place)
  • Silver: $125 (prize for 3rd place)
  • Bronze: $125 (EasyChair donation, miscellaneous give-aways, volunteer & speaker gifts, operating expenses, etc.)

Your company or organization gets exposure two evenings at ShmooCon during the FireTalks as well as mentions in all related blog posts here as we approach the conference. If you are interested in sponsoring please contact us or hit me up on Twitter (@grecs).

Volunteers

Lastly, we are looking for a number of volunteers to help pull this whole event together. If you are interested in volunteering, please hit me up on Twitter at @grecs. Below is a sample of volunteer positions we have used in the past.

  • Security (need 3+ people here)
  • Judging Panel Coordination
  • Speaker Wrangler
  • Blogger
  • Streaming/Recording
  • AV Coordination
  • CFP Review
  • Timer/Tweeter

Stay tuned for more details on the ShmooCon 2014 Firetalks. See ya!
