ISC2 Board Slate and Petition Process

Hey CISSPers … be sure to check your email inboxes for an important announcement from (ISC)2. Over the weekend they just announced the annual “ISC2 Board Slate and Petition Process” with complete details on the upcoming Board of Directors election cycle. Beyond mentioning the 5 available board seats (up from 4 last year), the message also includes a listing of their 8 endorsed candidates, including none other than Howard Schmidt. Anyone else interested in getting on the ballot must submit an electronic or written petition containing no less than 500 signatures from members before 5:00 pm EST on September 17th.

So far I’ve only seen one official announcement … that of former NoVA Blogger Georgia Weidman – http://www.georgiafortheboard.com/. For your convenience we’ve reprinted the full announcement below.

The (ISC)2 Bylaws provide you the opportunity to petition to have your name
added to the official election ballot to become a Board of Directors. For
those interested in submitting a petition, please find below an outline of
the petitioning process and a recap of the election timeline.

Petition Instructions:

To submit a petition, please follow these steps:

* No later than 5:00 p.m. EST on 17 September 2013, submit a written or
electronic petition to (ISC)2, containing the signatures of no less than
500 members who are in good standing (see the (ISC)2 Website at
https://www.isc2.org/MembersInGoodStanding.aspx for a definition of “in
good standing”). In accordance with the (ISC)2 Bylaws, members are
required to submit no less than one percent of the total membership of
(ISC)2, which as of 19 July 2013, was 90,377, resulting in at least 904
petition signatures. However, in an effort to encourage serious
candidates, the board has voted to reduce that requirement to 500. Please
send written petitions to:

(ISC)2
ATTN: Board Elections
311 Park Place Blvd. Suite 400
Clearwater, FL, 33759, USA.

Please send electronic petitions to: [email protected]

* Candidates submitting electronic petitions must submit an email that
contains (a) original encapsulated emails from supporters using their email
address of record and providing their (ISC)2 member ID number; and, (b) an
Excel spreadsheet listing all such names with corresponding email address
of record and (ISC)2 member number.

* All petitions will be verified to ensure that they meet all of the
requirements. If yours does not, where possible, we will notify you as soon
as possible, giving you the opportunity to resolve the matters that
prevented your first submission from being accepted and submit a corrected
petition before the submission deadline.

* All successful petitioners will be notified.

* Following the close of the petition process, (ISC)2 will post candidate
campaign messages and biographies on the member Website on behalf of all
candidates whose names appear on the official ballot.

* NOTE: (ISC)2 does not endorse or promote petitions. It is up to
petitioners to promote their own petition and encourage other (ISC)2
members to “sign” their petition. It remains the responsibility of the
members soliciting signatures to gather them pursuant to the instructions
above and submit them to (ISC)2 accordingly. However, in an effort to
accommodate those seeking signatures for their petition, (ISC)2 will send
an e-blast to all members announcing the name, e-mail address, and relevant
Website of those petitioning, asking that they contact the petitioner
directly for more information. (ISC)2 WILL NOT COLLECT PETITION
SIGNATURES, but we will send one e-blast to members on behalf of those
seeking signatures. If you desire to solicit signatures for the petition
process via the e-blast, please send your name, e-mail address, and Website
(if any) to [email protected] no later than 24 August 2013. Only
Websites that provide information regarding the petitioner’s platform, bio,
or other election information will be listed.
