Welcome to another edition of our Weekly Rewind – where we summarize all our posts from the last week. The top stories this week were 3) “BSidesLV Day 2 Postmortem”, 2) “Defcon Day 1 Postmortem”, and 1) “Defcon Day 2 Postmortem”. If you missed anything or happened to be offline, we hope you find this summary post useful as a quick reference.
A la Schneier … you can also use this rewind post to talk about the security stories in the news that we haven’t covered.
BSidesLV Travel Guide: As many of you can probably tell by my recent tweets I’m attending BSidesLV this year. I actually got in on Saturday night due to a work commitment but the good thing is that it’s given me a chance to scope the place out. Anyway, I thought I’d share some of what I found with everyone for getting the best out of the event. Do you have any other suggestions or thoughts on the above? Let us know in the comments below. BSidesLV Dashboard/Resources: Just a quick post with a bunch of widgets, links, and other things that try to pull the whole BSidesLV thing together… If there is anything you’d like us to add, just let us know in the comments below. For some travel suggestions, including restaurants, amenities, transportation, side trips and more, be sure to checkout our BSidesLV/Defcon Travel Guide as well. (continued here)
BSidesLV Day 1 Postmortem: So I spent the first day at BSidesLV and caught a number of interesting talks and caught up with many of my online friends. Here are some quick notes I took along the way…What were some of your favorite talks? Let us know in the comments below. (continued here)
What’s Your Favorite Vegas Con?: We are currently in the middle of the biggest infosec con week in Las Vegas right now. Blackhat training started this past Saturday and Defcon will finish up on Sunday. And in the middle we have BSidesLV opposite Blackhat Briefings. It seems like a good time to get the community’s feedback on what the best con to attend is. So if you could only go to one con in Vegas this week, which would it be? Any comments on why you voted the way you did? Let us know in the comments below. (continued here)
BSidesLV Day 2 Postmortem: Just wanted to follow-up with our article from yesterday on some of the going-ons at BSidesLV this year… Unfortunately, I took the morning off to pick up my badge for Defcon but did manage to catch some gems later in the afternoon. What were some of your favorite talks? Let us know in the comments below. (continued here)
Defcon Day 1 Postmortem: Defcon, the annual pilgrimage for many an infosec professional, followed day 1 and day 2 of BSidesLV as usual. The con officially started on Thursday but most people don’t show up on Friday since day 0 primarily focuses on first-timers. As such I didn’t show up until then and instead of heading over early to catch the star-stunted morning lineup, I chose to just relax at the hotel some and meetup with some folks for a late breakfast. (continued here)
Defcon Day 2 Postmortem: As compared to day 1 of Defcon I did a little better and actually got into Defcon before noon. And after a quick lunch I headed off to check out several talks. Did you see any talks you really liked and want to provide a quick summary? Let us know in the comments below. (continued here)
Defcon Day 3 Postmortem – Cavalry, Fast Forensics, & Open Sensors: I’ve taken a few days off to recover but am finally getting around to my quick summary of Sunday at Defcon. And even better than both Friday and Saturday, I actually made it to the 10:00 am rounds of talks. Did you see any talks you really liked and want to provide a quick summary? Let us know in the comments below. (continued here)
Hope everyone had a wonderful week. Have a great weekend!
