Training is pretty important to us … especially as it relates to career. And one of the best ways to get training is by playing around with some of the great pen test distros out there. With this in mind we recently heard of a new addition to the popular De-ICE set of victim servers. Released as De-ICE 1.40 (i.e., De-ICE S1.140), this LiveCD is essentially a new challenge server configured with a static IP of 192.168.1.140.
To set the new distro up, simply load the ISO into your VM software of choice in host-only mode. Next, configure your pen test distro to have an IP address somewhere in the class C noted above. For example if you are using BackTrack, run “ifconfig -eth0 192.168.1.99/24 up”. After that you should be ready to go with a live pen test on 192.168.1.140!
Unfortunately, for the vast majority of us we’ll have to wait a bit longer. Only students of HackingDojo.com have access to the new distro for now, but come June 11, 2013 it’ll be released to the general public. While waiting though you might want to check out some of their other server challenges, including De-ICE S1.100, De-ICE S1.110, De-ICE S1.120, De-ICE S1.130, and De-ICE S1.123 (a.k.a., Hackerdemia).
You can download all of these LiveCDs, including De-ICE S1.140 come June 11th, at the HackingDojo.com Media site.
